The stars have secrets to share, and tonight you’ll be part of their story. Let’s embark on a journey through the cosmos together! The beautiful skies above Tulum are the same ones the ancient Mayans studied. We’ll meet up at sunset to observe the skies through a telescope as night falls and the stars emerge. What to expect: • With the help of a laser pointer for guidance, you’ll learn to identify constellations, planets, and various types of stars. • We’ll discuss how the ancient Maya observed and interpreted the sky to create their world view, align their architecture with celestial events, and connect with their spiritual beliefs. • We will be surrounded by one of the most breathtaking skies in the region, the same celestial canvas the Mayans used to develop their calendars. As the sun sets, with telescopes Henry or Stella, you’ll witness the magical transition from day to night while we make a reading of the Mayan Oracle and observe the first stars emerge. Capture the essence of Tulum through cyanotype printing with me, a professional artist and printmaker, in this unique workshop. You’ll connect with your surroundings and create a one-of-a-kind memory of your journey. • Meet at Bacab Gallery, where I’ll explain the process, history and technique of cyanotype, a camera-free printing technique that uses light-sensitive salts to create striking blue images. • Arrange your collected objects—maybe a feather, flower, beach pebble, or leaf—on handmade cotton or pine paper from Veracruz. I’ll guide you through composition techniques to make the artwork. • Coat the paper with a special solution and expose it to sunlight (or UV light, if the sun isn’t cooperating) and watch the transformation as your design turns into a rich blue. After rinsing and drying it, reflect on your masterpiece. You’ll leave with a personal artwork, and recommendations for how to frame and preserve your new creation.

The story of Yucatán is stitched into its textiles, woven with the strength of henequen—a fiber made from agave leaves—and the artistry of generations past. You’ll wander through the Xcumpich neighborhood, a historical center for henequen production, and learn to make textiles with guidance from a local designer who reimagines ancestral techniques for today’s world. • We’ll meet at the grand pich tree in Xcumpich Park before setting off on a guided walk through the remnants of an old hacienda. • Learn how henequen—once known as “green gold”—shaped the region’s economy and identity, and see firsthand how this neighborhood continues to honor its textile traditions. • Outside, surrounded by trees and an old water well, a local textile artist will introduce you to working with henequen. Through a step-by-step demonstration, you’ll create your own small textile piece using traditional knotting and free-form techniques. More than just a souvenir, your piece will carry the story of a place where history, nature, and creativity intertwine. Through this experience, you’ll gain a deeper appreciation for the skill and artistry behind handmade textiles while supporting local traditions that bridge past and present.
